Obituary of Jean Madden
Mrs. Jean M. Madden, 87, of 208 N. Washington St., Titusville died Friday afternoon, May 14th at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie following a brief illness.
Mrs. Madden was born on May 11, 1923 in Erie to the late Joseph Gruelich and Kathleen Carver Greulich Goodwill. She married John J. “Jack” Madden on September 23, 1942 in Erie. He preceded her in death on June 26, 1982.
She was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School in Erie, class of 1941.
Mrs. Madden was previously employed by Smitty’s Newsstand, JoAnne’s Children’s Clothing, and GTE Sylvania.
She was a member of St. Titus Parish, the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Titusville Area Hospital Auxiliary and was leader of the Christian Services Committee at St. Titus Church.
In the past Mrs. Madden enjoyed golfing, dancing, doing crossword puzzles, and reading.
She is survived by her two sons, Robert Madden of Brentwood, TN and Pete Madden of Titusville and his wife Nancy who was very near and dear to her heart; seven grandchildren, Robert Madden on Pleasantville, Lori Elmquist and husband Brian of Sheffield, Shane Madden of Titusville, Patrick Madden and wife Heather of Titusville, Tiffany Houston and husband John of Rock Hill, SC, James Madden of Rock Hill, SC, Megan Madden of Titusville; five brothers, Mike Greulich of Columbus, OH, Bill, Dan and Joe Greulich of Erie, and John Greulich of Novi, MI; She was the great grandmother to 13 great grandchildren, as well as, one due in September; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She also had many great friends especially her beloved neighbors Bob and Amy Felton who graciously gave so much love and support over the years.
Mrs. Madden was preceded in death by her son, Dennis Madden and a brother, Robert Greulich.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home today (Monday) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A Vigil Service will be conducted at 3:45 PM with Fr. D.G. Davis III, officiating. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday in St. Titus Church at 11:00 AM with Fr. D.G. Davis III, pastor of the Catholic Community of Titusville, officiating.
Interment will be in St. Catharines Cemetery.
