Obituary of Frank E. Galmish

Mr. Frank E. Galmish, 91, of 1125 Grandview Rd., Oil City died at 3:00 PM on Friday, November 12, 2010 at the Jefferson Home in Brookville. Mr. Galmish was born on October 25, 1919 in Titusville. He was the son of Frank A. and Elsie Graff Galmish. He was a graduate of Colestock High School (Titusville), class of 1937. Prior to World War II he was employed by the Titusville Silk Mill, Pennzoil Co. and National Fuel. In 1950 he was employed for 33 years by Universal Cyclops Spec. Steel Corp at Titusville as a roller in the Precision Cold Roll Department. He retired on January 29, 1982. He was married to the former Mary Ann McGough on August 11, 1945 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Titusville. Mrs. Galmish preceded him in death on Oct. 7, 2002. Mr. Galmish was an Army veteran enlisted on June 3, 1942, in Erie and was overseas at Northern Ireland on Dec. 1943, Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the EAME Service Medal with four bronze service stars, Combat Infantry Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 20, 1945 at Fort Francis E. Warren, Wyoming. He lived in Pleasantville for 38 years and was an active member in the First United Methodist Church where he was a trustee, treasurer, and had many jobs on the official board for over 25 years and attended the Foster Sunday School class. He was a member of the Pleasantville Boro and Jointure School Director from 1957 to 1968. He was a member of the I.O.O. F Lodge #519 in Pleasantville and a Past Noble Grand of the lodge. He joined the Pleasantville Lions Club in 1957 and was very active in the club as President in 1962 and 1993, treasurer for 20 years and held many other jobs in the club. He served as District Governor for PA 14-F during 1988 and 1989 and also held many jobs on the district level. He was a President of the Past District Governors of 14-F, on the Eye Surgery Trust Fund, and was awarded the Melvin Jones award in 1989 from the Pleasantville Lions and Lioness Club. He was also an Honor Citizen of Pleasantville in 1987, a board member of the Venango Blind Assoc., Cyclops Quarter Century Club, and a current member of the Pleasantville Presbyterian Church for several years. Mr. Galmish is survived by a daughter, Patricia K. Sunderland and husband, Norman, of Sigel; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Galmish of Pleasantville; five grandchildren, Todd Galmish wife, Holly, Chris Galmish both of Pleasantville, Laura Sunderland, Shela Sunderland both of Sigel, Lisa Kifer and husband Captain Myles Allen Kifer of New Burn, NC; three great grandchildren, Nicole & Sara Galmish of Pleasantville, Emerick Kifer of New Burn, NC; a close niece and nephew, Linda and Albert Eimer of Mayfield Hts, OH; and several additional nieces and nephews, close friends, David and Rhea Fish and Family, of Pleasantville, the Doleckis and the Banksons of Oil City. He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Galmish; two brothers, Charles and William Galmish; and two sisters, Virginia Galmish who died in infancy and Betty McQuiston. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Funeral services will be conducted from the Pleasantville Presbyterian Church on Wednesday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Susan Speakman, officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Pleasantville.
