Obituary of Philip F. Catalano

Philip F. Catalano, 84, of Townville, passed away Monday, December 28, 2015 at his home. Philip was born on October 20, 1931 in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Vincent and Catherine Winter Catalano. He was first married to Mary Schneider on November 23, 1950 in Pittsburgh. She preceded him in death on Aug. 11, 1994. He later married Patricia Brosenitsch Wanker on May 5, 2001 at St. Titus Church. Philip had attended North Catholic High School and Allegheny High School, both in Pittsburgh. He was employed as a molder at Matthews Bronze Foundry in Pittsburgh for 20 years. He was later employed at Dravo Corp. from 1970 to 1979, and last as custodian of North Hills High School from 1984 to 1993 at which time he retired. He relocated to Townville the following year. Philip was a member of St. Titus Church. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, traveling, spending time at his pond, and mostly spending time with his family and grandchildren. Philip is survived by his wife of Townville; a daughter, Sharon McGinn of Oconomowoc, WI; three sons, Philip G. Catalano of Pittsburgh, Robert Catalano, Sr. and wife Joni of McMurray, and John Catalano and wife Victoria of Harmony; the following step sons, Daniel Wanker and friend Becky of Centerville, Michael Wanker and wife Kristy of Sharon, David Wanker and wife Marlene of Spartansburg, and Donald Wanker and wife Krystal of Glendale, AZ; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren with another three to arrive soon; 8 step grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren with another one to arrive soon; a brother, Vincent Catalano and wife Patty of Columbia, SC; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Catalano of Naples, FL; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and first wife, Philip was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Thomas McGinn; a brother, William Catalano; and a sister Sylvia Hoffman. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 AM at St. Titus Church with Fr. Walter E. Packard as celebrant. Interment will be in Christ The Redeemer Cemetery in Pittsburgh.
