Obituary of Richard W. Zahner
Mr. Richard W. Zahner, 81, formerly of Townville, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Titusville.
Mr. Zahner was born on April 23, 1928 at Spartansburg, PA, a son of the late William and Leah Bradford Zahner. He was married to Catherine Wright on July 26, 1946 in Titusville. She preceded him in death on Feb. 2, 1989. He later married the former Ruth Sparks who survives.
Mr. Zahner had attended the Titusville schools. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army. He entered the service on Feb. 6, 1946 at Pittsburgh and was honorably discharged on Feb. 2, 1947 at Boca Raton Field, FL.
Mr. Zahner was self employed as a farmer in his earlier years. He later worked for Marsh Gage Pole and was last employed by the City of Titusville from where he retired.
He was a member of the Bruce Shorts Post No. 5958 VFW. He enjoyed gardening and tinkering around the house.
Mr. Zahner is survived by his wife of Harrisville; three children, Sandra Burt and husband Jack of Titusville, Dave Zahner and wife Barbara of Pleasantville, and Brenda Waid and husband Wayne of Townville; 8 grandchildren, Kirk D. Sutton of Townville, Melissa Tomcho and husband Tony of Corry, James L. Sutton, Jr. of Titusville, Todd Zahner of Oil City, Andrew Zahner and wife Nadia of St. Augustine, FL, Jared Zahner and wife Emily of Pleasantville, Bryan Waid of Townville and Dean Waid and wife Shelly of W. Sunbury, PA; 18 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Anderson of Titusville; a brother, Carl Patterson of Spartansburg; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a brother Donald Gilson.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville today (Thursday) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and attend the funeral service there on Friday at 11:00 AM with Pastor Terry Bidwell of the First Assembly of God Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Kingsley Cemetery in Townville.
The family asks that memorials be made to the Townville Volunteer Fire Dept. Main St. Townville, PA 16360.
