Obituary of George C. Tarr

Mr. George C. Tarr, 98, of State Highway 417, Cooperstown, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Country Acres. Mr. Tarr was born in Oakland Township, Venango County on March 2, 1917 to the late Robert M. and Ruth I. Horn Tarr. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Having served during WWII, he entered on June 25, 1945 and was honorably discharged on September, 4, 1946. Mr. Tarr married Helen McCandless Cunningham in 1965. She preceded him in death on December 11, 1985. He retired from Pennzoil Refinery in 1979, after thirty six years of employment. Mr. Tarr is survived by three sisters, Karla Ohl and husband John of Titusville, Shirley Solinger and husband Gene of Titusville, and Mary Ritchey of Oil City; and four step children, John Cunningham and wife Martha of Erie, William Cunningham and wife Carolyn of Pembroke, FL, Neena VanCamp of Athens, TN, and Sara Shaffer of Pointsville, KY. He was preceded in death by two children, infant Raymond Tarr and daughter Judith A. Yearwood; four brothers, Raymond Tarr, Frederick Tarr, Warren Horn, and George DeLong. Friends and family may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 N. Washington Street, Titusville, PA 16354 on Thursday, January 21, 2016 from 11 AM to 1 PM, with the funeral service to follow with Rev. Marshall Lillie of Crawford County Hospice officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Oakland Volunteer Fire Department, 779 Speer Road, Cooperstown, PA 16317, or to a charity of one’s choice.
