Obituary of Jane K. Behrens

Mrs. Jane K. Behrens, 83, of Sumter, SC, formerly of Pleasantville, died Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Morninside of Sumter. She had been a resident there for several years. Jane was born on September 12, 1932 in Pithole to the late Elmer and Hattie Fox Sparks. She married Jaun E. Behrens on May 21, 1955 in Titusville. He preceded her in death on January 4, 1994. She was a graduate of Pleasantville High School class of 1950. Jane worked at Spark’s General Store in Pleasantville for eight years before becoming a homemaker. She was a member of the Pleasantville Presbyterian Church where she served two terms as a deacon, two terms in session, sat on the memorial committee, and taught Sunday school for thirty two years, which she greatly enjoyed. Jane was a member of the Pleasantville Vol. Fire Dept. Women’s Auxiliary for twenty eight years. She was Vice President of the Pleasantville School Alumni Association for a number of years, was part of her children’s PTA, and was a volunteer with Brownie’s for four years. She also enjoyed traveling; having traveled to England, Hawaii, Alaska and various states where her children lived. She is survived by her three children; Jay Behrens of Hendersonville, SC, Paul Turner and wife Chris of Inman, SC, and Jena Behrens of Sumter,SC; a sister, Cory Sparks; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jane was preceded in death by six brothers, William, Warren, George, John, Emmet, and Russell Sparks; and three sisters, Phoebe Chambers, Oillie Sporer, and Ruth Zehner. Funeral service will be conducted on Monday, February 8, 2016 at 2 PM at the Pleasantville Presbyterian Church, 155 East State Street, Pleasantville, PA 16341, officiated by Rev. Jamie Fowler. Friends and family may attend a gathering following the funeral service at the church’s social hall. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Pleasantville Presbyterian Church, 155 E. State St., Pleasantville, PA 16341 or to the Pleasantville Volunteer Fire Department, 127 W. State St., Pleasantville, PA 16341.
