Obituary of Gladys L. Benson

Mrs. Gladys L. Benson, 96, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016 at 8:25PM at Southwoods Assisted Living Community. Gladys was born on March 16, 1920 in Youngsville to the late Irvie and Flossie Chapman Burt. She married Howard W. Benson on March 2, 1940. He preceded her in death on January 26, 1986. She was a graduate of Oil City High School. Gladys was a member of the Titusville First United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed going to the senior center to play bingo, going shopping, crafting, and quilting. She also loved being with her friends and family. Gladys is survived by her daughter Beverly Friedly of Cheektowaga, NY; four grandchildren, Timothy, Michael, Stacey, and Kelli Friedly; six great grandchildren, Ashley, Andrew, Taylor, Harrison, Trevor Friedly, and Jordan Palmer; two sisters, Viola Weagraff and Doris Wiggins both of Titusville; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Robert Burt; and two sisters, Mildred Sopher, Margaret Shields. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home Inc. 303 N. Washington St. on Wednesday from Noon to 2:00 PM at which time a service will be conducted with Rev. Lee Baker, officiating. Interment will be at Jerusalem Corners Cemetery.
