Obituary of David B. Kurschinske
David B. Kurschinske, 63, of Titusville passed away unexpectedly on April 1, 2016 in the early morning at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Erie, PA.
David was born on February 26, 1953 in Oil City, the son of the late Leslie C. & Elizabeth A. (Porter) Kurschinske. He was married to Virginia “Jenny” O’Neill on April 7, 1978. He was a graduate of Titusville High School in the class of 1971. He attended Saint Louis University, Park College of Engineering, Aviation, and Technology in Missouri, majoring in commercial aviation. Later, he received his private pilot license to fly small aircraft in Corry, PA. He also received certificates in welding, electrical, steel manufacturing (Beckley, West Virginia), mining and safety training throughout the United States.
His working career included Continental Can Company of Oil City, Phillips Products, Struthers Wells Ernst Steel, Cyclops then later known as Cytemp Specialty Steel and Oil Creek Plastics. He worked in the Forge/Grind/Anneal Department then as a Foreman Technician at Cytemp before the plant’s closure. For many years as a second side job he and his father for Collins Radio T.V. Service erected a majority of towers and antenna’s in the Tri-City area prior to the dish. At the time of his death, he worked at Oil Creek Plastics in the maintenance department as an electrician, mechanic and engineer since 1990 or 1991.
Dave is survived by his wife, Jenny and his two children: Jayme & her husband Pat Walsh, Bryon D. Kurschinske and his grandson Devon A. Kurschinske all of Titusville, PA; his two sisters: Elaine C. Dozois & her husband Henry of Lowell, MA, Susan K. Wyant & her husband John of Cypress, TX, several nieces & nephews, and his best friend, James Baily of Cherrytree, PA.
Hunting, watching racing (particularly Formula One and Le man’s Corvette racing classes), and football were some of Dave’s favorite hobbies. He was a huge Pittsburgh Steelers fan. In addition to those hobbies, he enjoyed spending time with his family and pets. He had a love of cars, trucks and heavy equipment. He collected Chevrolet Corvettes, Pontiac Fieros and GMC & Chevy trucks.
David will be remembered by many people for his intellect and ingenuity. He will also be remembered as being a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, father in law and friend.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth A. (Porter) Kurschinske, who passed away on October 28, 2015 and his father, Leslie C. Kurschinske, who was laid to rest on November 1, 1975 and a brother-n-law Neal E. Fox on February 26, 1993.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dana Lewis of the Mt. Carmel Tabernacle in Dempseytown, officiating.
Interment will be in Kerr Hill Cemetery.
