Obituary of John William Sellen
Mr. John William Sellen, Sr. 76, of 209 E. Linden St. Titusville, died Friday, April 15, 2016 at 12:06 AM at his residence.
John was born on July 25, 1939 in Titusville to the late William L. and Ethel D. May Sellen. He married Connie Slother in 1963 in Titusville.
John was a graduate of Titusville High School.
He worked at the former Otto Cupler Torpedo plant and was last employed as a manager at Buyer’s Fair.
John was a member of St. Walburga Church.
He was a lifetime member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW and the Cleo J. Ross Post 368 American Legion. He was also a member of the PNA Club and the Moose Lodge 84.
John drove for Disabled American Veterans for many years and was also part of the VFW and American Legion honor guard. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, embroidering, and being with friends and family. John also loved music and going to dances.
He is survived by his wife Connie of 52 years; three children, John W. Sellen, Jr. of Titusville, Brenda Reed and companion Steve Goheen of Oil City, and Kimberly Dougherty and husband Joseph of Titusville; seven grandchildren, Tyler, Travis, and Trevor Reed of Oil City, and Sean Paul, Riley, Katelyn and Liam Dougherty of Titusville; eight great grandchildren; three sisters, Saundra Ricketts of Townville, Vicki Crum and companion Bill Hoffman of Titusville, and Arlene Shorts and husband Richard of Townville; one brother Harry Sellen and wife Patricia of Titusville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents John was preceded in death by an infant son and two sisters, Patricia Farley and Mary Mott.
The Family would like to express their gratitude to the American Legion Post 368 and John and Carol for all the support they gave to the family during John’s illness.
Friends may call at St. Walburga Church on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 from 9 to 10:45 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11AM with Fr. Walter E. Packard, pastor of the Catholic Community of Titusville, officiating.
Interment will be at St. Catharines Cemetery.
