Obituary of Ronald A. Nelson
Ronald A. Nelson, 78, of Pleasantville, passed away Friday morning April 22, 2016 at his home.
Ron was born on August 11, 1937 at his current home to the late Ralph and Hazel Proctor Nelson. He was married to Donna Stokes on Oct. 22, 1957 in Erie, PA.
Ron had attended the Pleasantville schools. He was a veteran having served in the US Army. He entered the service on Sept. 28, 1955 and trained as a paratrooper. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 14, 1963 with the rank of corporal.
After his military discharge, Ron worked at Hillcrest Machine of Pleasantville. He was later employed as an electrician at the former Cytemp Specialty Steel Corp. and AK Steel for 30 years until his retirement. After retiring from Cytemp, he also worked in Franklin at Conair, Anderson Metal Industries, and Baker Auto Parts. He also worked in Titusville at the former Buyers Fair, Bryan True Value, and Walmart.
Ron enjoyed hunting; traveling with his wife; reading history books of World War I and II; spending time gardening and the outdoors; spending time with his grandchildren; and also his pet Lab “Syndi”.
He is survived by his wife Donna with whom he enjoyed 58 years of marriage; two daughters, Julie Bryan and husband George of Oil City, and Terry D. Nelson and friend Diane Thomson of Dallas, TX; three sons, Ronald Nelson and wife Diane of Chesapeake, VA, Michael Nelson and wife Brenda of Pleasantville, and Brian Nelson and wife Brenda of Hydetown; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Phelps of Lakeland, FL; 3 brothers-in-law, Andrew Stokes and wife Yolanda of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Larry Stokes of Georgia, and Lloyd Jackson of Enterprise; 2 sisters-in-law, Mary Nelson of Enterprise and Darlene Nelson of Utica; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Andrew and Evelyn Stokes; 3 brothers, Arthur, Lars, and Bruce Nelson; a sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Clyde Bedford; a brother-in-law, Edward Phelps; and sisters-in-law, Penny Jackson, Mary Motherwell Nelson, and Carolyn Nelson.
No public calling hours or service will be conducted.
Inurnment will be in Curry Cemetery.
