Obituary of Dorothy Jean Steadman
Dorothy Jean Steadman, 73, of Fauncetown Rd. Townville, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on July 31, 1942 in Titusville, PA, the daughter of the late Harry L. “Joe” Hancox, Sr. and Louise Cardullo Hancox. She was married to William F. Steadman on November 25, 1960 in Townville.
She was a graduate of Townville High School, class of 1959. She had been employed by Skyline Industries and Struthers Wells Corp. After raising her children, she worked for over 20 years as a legal secretary, which she loved. She volunteered for many years at the Titusville Toy Shop including crocheting doll blankets to accompany wooden doll cradles to be given to needy children. She also crocheted lap robes that were donated to the Erie Soldiers and Sailors Home. She was proud of her crocheting and had won two red ribbons for afghans at the Crawford County Fair. She also enjoyed gardening, playing cards and attending her grandchildren’s many sporting and musical activities. She loved traveling with her family including trips to Disney World, Sumter, SC, and anywhere she could have her picture taken with “big things”.
She was a member of St. James Memorial Episcopal Church in Titusville.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Gail Steadman of Meadville, Diane Weldon and husband Philip of Shermans Dale, PA, and Laura Priester and husband Randy of Edinboro. She was also a loving grandmother to McKenna, Jeffrey and Natalie Priester, all of Edinboro. She is also survived by three sisters, Patricia Graham and husband Lawrence of Ocala, FL, Cynthia Fry and husband Thomas of Centerville, and Susan Green and husband Kerry of Franklin; a brother, Jerry Hancox and wife Loretta of Greenville; a sister-in-law, Tomi Hancox of Fairfield, CA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry L. “Joe” Hancox, Jr. and William F. Hancox and his wife Jane.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Tuesday from 6 to 9 PM and attend the funeral service on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at St. James Memorial Episcopal Church 112 E. Main St. Titusville, PA with Rev. Canon Martha Ishman, vicar, officiating.
Interment will be in Troy Center Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Crawford County Humane Society or to St. James House.
