Obituary of Carla Alene Marshall

Weary of reading obituaries noting someone else’s hobbies and accomplishments and courageous battles with this or that illness, we want it known that Carla Alene Marshall passed away on April 25, 2016 after living a completely “other” centered life for more than eight and a half decades. We cannot say anything about who she was without telling what she was from, what molded and gave her life its perfect and unique shape. Carla Alene Marshall was born to the late Merna A. Stoke-White-Manross and Ernest Carl White on March 21, 1930 in Titusville. She is from brothers and sisters who have passed before her; Walter White, Roxie Turk, David White, Twila White, and Wayne White. She is from sisters still here, Marilyn Main, Audrey Peterson, Arlene Mahan, and Carol Ann Kuberry. She is from the Great Depression and hard work and tough as nails. From mothering her siblings with devotion. She is from graduating from Titusville High School in 1948. She is from marrying Jack Arden Marshall in Las Vegas, Nevada on February 1, 1964, who preceded her in death in 2008. She is from a move from her hometown of Titusville, Pennsylvania to Van Nuys, California and back again. From numerous jobs including Bendix in California and Sylvania in Titusville and waitressing at the Pizza Villa. She is from losing two children and raising four others; Scott White and wife Patty, Ken Marshall, Deborah Marshall, and Kelly Marshall and wife Angela with utter love and care and attention. She is from taking in needy neighborhood kids and washing their faces and feeding them toast. She is from bacon grease cooking and apple pie baking…from cat food on the back porch and hummingbird feeders always full. She is from perfect scrambled egg making for Luke, her only and beloved grandson, and stooping down on the dirt road to find the perfect rocks to add to her only and beloved granddaughter Maya’s rock collection. She is from Johnny Cash, and beautiful flowers, and moving her house plants to the light. From standing at the door waving until you are out of sight…from loud voice and booming laugh and, “That’s just fantastic!” She is from easy conversation and funny without trying to be. From not needing fancy anything to be happy, from being content no matter what her circumstances. Forever and ever she will always be from living life with grace and abounding love, and other-worldly selfless giving to all around her. We who loved her were molded and shaped in turn by her and created from that blessed mixture of her wit and joy and strength of character. Our mother and grandmother, our sister, our aunt, was a keeper of a welcome and well-lived life. Inurnment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Centerville. There will be no memorial service or calling hours.
