Obituary of Mary E. Butryn
Mary E. Butryn, 75, formerly of Chapmanville, currently of Wesbury Retirement Community, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at UPMC Hamot in Erie.
She was born in Providence, RI on March 26, 1941 to the late Elizabeth O’Brien Avery.
Mary obtained a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Rhode Island, and a Masters of Education from Edinboro University.
She married James A. Butryn on November 27, 1964 in Chapmanville. He preceded her in death on October 28, 2006.
Mary was a sixth grade school teacher at Pleasantville Elementary School for thirty-two years.
She coached softball for Diamond/CND for many years. She was the former president of the Maplewood Football Boosters, and former secretary of the Mid East Baseball/Softball Association. She enjoyed poetry and spending time with her grandchildren and attending their events.
Mary is survived by her four children, Beth Butryn and wife Becki Baird of Meadville, James Butryn and wife Joy of Guys Mills, Colleen Groger and husband Chris of Titusville, and Mark Butryn and wife Barbara of Kernersville, NC; eight grandchildren, Garrett, Levi, and Dylan Butryn, Mariah, Hunter, Lucas, and Sabrina Groger, and Myah Butryn; a sister, Patricia Cassidy and husband Mike of Cary, NC; and numerous brother and sister in laws, nieces, and nephews.
Friends and family may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 N. Washington St., Titusville, PA 16354, on Tuesday, May 3 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The funeral service will be held there on Wednesday, May 4 at 11 AM, with Rev. Glen VanCise officiating.
Interment will be in Chapmanville Cemetery.
