Obituary of Jean Sallaway Schlosser

Jean Sallaway Schlosser, 78, peacefully passed away surrounded by family in her home in Pleasantville the evening of June 5, 2016, after an extended illness. Jean was preceded in death by both her sisters Anne Sallaway Willmarth of Arlington Heights, IL October 1985 and Linda Sallaway of Titusville, PA September 1967. Jean was born on July 3, 1937, in Flushing, New York to the late Margaret (Howland) Sallaway and John Sallaway. She married Gene Schlosser December 28, 1960. She graduated from Titusville (Colestock) High School in 1955. From there she went to Green Mountain College in Vermont and completed her degree in Nursing at University of Pittsburgh. In October 2014, she retired from the Titusville Area Hospital as a Registered Nurse, after working for the Tionesta Clinic for over 25 years. She was active in her church and the YWCA for many years. She mentored several women into the nursing profession. Jean loved her husband and family. She especially loved her “church family” at the St. James Episcopal Memorial Church in Titusville. Jean will be missed by many friends as evident to the unending stream of visitors she received during her final weeks. She was an award winning cross-stitcher securing several blue ribbons at the Crawford County Fair. Sorely missed will be her famous custard pies and Thanksgiving meals. She loved her dog Reilly even if she was a bit of a challenge to handle as a puppy. Jean enjoyed exploring the back country roads in Northwest Pennsylvania with her husband. In later years, they would frequently visit her granddaughter at Slippery Rock University to watch her dance recitals. She was an avid golfer, bridge player, Pittsburgh Pirates fan and loved solving cross-word puzzles. She was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren and delighted in their accomplishments. Jean had a fantastic sense of humor and dignity which she maintained till the end. Jean is survived by her husband, Gene, and her children Steven Schlosser, his wife Heidi and daughters, Tara and Megan of Mt. Airy, MD; son Thomas Schlosser, wife Anne, son Patrick and daughters Lily-Jean and Virginia of Montgomery Village, MD, and daughter Amy Stone and her husband Thomas of Mt. Airy, MD. Brother John (Bill) Sallaway and his wife Patty of Pleasantville and his children, Geoff, Andrew, William and Bobby. Sister-in-law Barb Davidson of Pleasantville, and nephew Michael Davidson, and nieces Tracy Miller, Lori Davidson, Nan Davidson, Beth Davidson and Mandy Davidson. In addition, she is survived by her sister Anne’s children Janie (Willmarth) Hoeg and John Willmarth. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the St. James Memorial Church Fund or your choice of charity. A memorial service is planned for June 30, 2016 at 11:00am St. James Memorial Episcopal Church, 112 E Main St, Titusville, PA 16354.
