Obituary of Susan Godinez

Mrs. Susan Emma Williams Godinez, 89, of Centerville (Lincolnville) passed away Monday afternoon June 13, 2016 at the Meadville Medical Center following a recent fall. Susan was born on December 5, 1926 in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Alvin and Clarissa Cochran Williams. She attended the Winchester Thurston School in Pittsburgh where she graduated from in 1945. Susan married Antonio J. Godinez on April 26, 1946 and moved to live in Habana, Cuba where all but her eldest child was born. In 1960, while traveling in the United States, she was advised by the State Department not to return to Cuba because of the unrest there. She then, along with her children, returned to Pittsburgh where they waited for her husband Antonio to exit Cuba. The family then lived in Tulsa, OK for three years after which they moved to Puerto Rico where they lived for fifteen years. The family then returned to the area where Susan and Antonio currently live on South Road in Lincolnville. She was fortunate to have always been blessed with wonderful neighbors there. Susan had a great love for northwestern Pennsylvania where she began spending her summers since 1927 at the Williams family farm along route 8 north of Centerville. She also loved dancing, reading, gardening, and her pet dogs “Gina” and “Celi”. During her lifetime, her most rewarding volunteer work was at the Titusville Area Hospital and at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh during World War II when she worked as a Red Cross nurses aid to help out during the shortage of registered nurses. Susan is survived by her husband of Lincolnville; four children, Antonio “Butch” Godinez and wife Bonnie of Key Biscayne, FL, John “Chino” Godinez and wife Karen of Crescent City, CA, Miguel “Micco” Godinez and wife Jean of Hanalei, HI, and Clarissa “Sis” Godinez and husband Fran Arsenault of Centerville; seven grandchildren; two great grandsons; a brother, Alvin J. Williams, Jr. of Sewickley; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, David and Franklyn “Buss” Williams; and a sister, Clarissa Lane. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Thursday from 4 to 6 PM. No funeral service will be conducted
