Obituary of Roberta J. Post
Mrs. Roberta Jean “Bobbie” Post, 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at the Homestead Hearth Personal Care Home in Centerville after an extended illness.
Roberta was born on October 22, 1928, in Steuben Township, Crawford County to the late Ross and Ethel Dragoo Howard. As a child she attended Beardsley School and then graduated from Townville High School, class of 1946. She graduated from Meadville City Hospital Nursing School and became a registered nurse.
Roberta married Alden E. Post on May 18, 1950, at the Centerville Baptist Church. They were happily married for nearly 60 years until Alden passed away in 2010. During that time they owned and operated a dairy farm on Post Ridge. Roberta worked as an RN for most of her adult life, at Titusville Hospital and also as Meadville City Hospital. She retired from Titusville Hospital in 1998. She especially enjoyed working with the children in Pediatrics.
She was a lifelong Republican and took seriously the privilege of voting. She served as Athens Twp. Republican committee woman for many years, always looking forward to “voting days.”
Roberta and Alden served for 10 years as leaders for Townville Champs 4-H Club. They spent countless hours making sure members were prepared to exhibit their dairy animals at the Crawford County Fair and taking care of the logistics involved with the 4-H club. She was also a member of the Centerville Women’s Club.
Roberta loved the Lord, loved people, and especially loved children. She was an active member of Centerville Community Baptist Church and American Baptist Women all of her adult life. She joyfully served in whatever capacity she was able, singing alto in the choir and taking special care to arrange for a variety of special music performances for church services. She loved music and made sure her children learned “music as a second language” at an early age. Along with her husband, she served as leader for the local Baptist Youth Fellowship for many years.
She was well known for her special pie-making ability. She won numerous awards for her delectable pies at the Crawford County Fair, including Grand championships, and competed at the Pennsylvania Farm Show on the Apple Pie Contest. Her pies usually fetched a handsome price at the annual County Republican Picnic Auction. Her grandchildren would often request one of her pies in lieu of a birthday cake- the best compliment of all.
Roberta loved children, taking special pleasure in teaching small children’s Sunday school classes. As a nurse, she cared for and comforted children of all ages. She took special delight in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by daughter, June Post and husband (George German) of Colorado Springs, CO; son, Jack Post and wife Pamela of Centerville; daughter, RoseAnne Breuch and husband Dan of Arvada, CO; son, Glen Post and wife Barbara of Valdosta, GA; 10 cherished grandchildren; 16 equally cherished great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret “Peggy” Mears and husband H. David of Cochranton.
In addition to her husband, Alden, she was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Robert Howard, James Howard, Paul Howard, Edgar Howard, and 2 sisters, Dorothy Wheelock and Vora Cole.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville on Saturday from 3 to 6 PM. Additional visitation will be at the Centerville Baptist Church on Sunday from 3 to 4 PM with the service to follow conducted by retired Baptist minister, Pastor Gary Kinnear.
Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Centerville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Centerville Baptist Church 18736 Erie St., Centerville, PA 16404.
