Obituary of Mildred R. Sorrell

Mrs. Mildred R. “Millie” Sorrell, 87, formerly of 120 Union St. Titusville, passed away at 2:15 A.M. on Monday, July 11, 2016 at Southwoods Assisted Living Community. Millie was born on January 19, 1929 in Titusville, PA to the late Howard J. and May W. Olson Ricke. She married Richard “Dick” Sorrell on December 29, 1951 at St. Paul’s Church in Titusville. He preceded her in death on June 23, 2011. Millie attended Titusville area schools and was a graduate of Titusville High School, class of 1947. She also studied painting and calligraphy at the Mt. Lebanon branch of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and a former member of St. Paul’s Church of Christ before its closing in 2001. Mrs. Sorrell served as an elder, editor of the church newsletter, and a member of the Adult and Women’s Fellowship of the Church. Millie enjoyed reading, painting, gardening, and traveling worldwide with her husband. Millie is survived by a brother, Howard Ricke, Jr. of Titusville; a sister in law Teresa Sorrell of Houston, TX; four nephews, Richard, Ray, Mike, and Steve Panas ; three nieces, May Crain, Cindy Zinram, and Janet Process; and numerous great nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Sonny Sorrell; two sister-in-laws Mary Ricke and Shirley Panas. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home Inc. 303 N. Washington St. on Monday, July 18 from 6 to 8 PM and attend a funeral there on Tuesday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Norma Prina Murphy and Mr. Thomas Newcombe of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.
