Obituary of Richard A. Hampton

Mr. Richard A. Hampton, 76, of Steubenville, OH, passed away on July 14, 2016 following an extended illness. He was born on September 22, 1939 in Titusville, PA. He was the son of Chester C. Hampton and Jeannette V. Hampton, both of whom proceeded him in death. Dick graduated from Titusville High School in 1957. He graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in 1961 with a degree in Metallurgy. Following his graduation, Dick worked for Weirton Steel Corporation and National Steel Corporation in Weirton, WV as a metallurgist. He retired in 2001 following a career of 40 years. Dick was an avid fan of Penn State and Steubenville Big Red football. He enjoyed playing golf and often played with the Elder Statesman League when he visited his home town. He was a loving uncle to his niece and nephew. More than an uncle, he was their “buddy”, enjoying watching them grow. Survivors include his brother, Stephen Hampton, and Yvonne Gentzler of Sun City, AZ; niece, Cheryl Hampton, and her fiancé Chris Houy of Tampa, FL; and nephew, Darren Hampton of Longmont, CO. The funeral service will held at the convenience of the family. No calling hours will be observed. The family requests that any memorials be made to Alzheimer’s research, www.alzfdn.org. Arrangements are under the direction of the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 N. Washington Street, Titusville, PA 16354.
