Obituary of Richard E. Whitman

Mr. Richard E. “Dick” Whitman, 80, of Pleasantville, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016 at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie. He was born in Oil City on May 4, 1936 to the late Conrad and Esther Wyher Whitman. Dick graduated from Colestock High School, class of 1954. He worked as an electrician in the maintenance department at the Rouseville Pennzoil Refinery for twenty-nine years, until their closing. Dick married Patricia Hartle on July 12, 1958 at the Pleasantville Shamburg Church. He was a member of the Titusville Free Methodist Church. Dick was a member of the Oil City Lodge F. & A. M., Brokenstraw Tractor Club, and the National Rifle Association. He held lifetime licenses for hunting, trapping, and fishing. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, yard work, restoring John Deere tractors, and spending time with his grandchildren. Dick is survived by his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Patricia of Pleasantville; four children, Kelly Connolly of Ashtabula, OH, Dwayne Whitman and wife Bonnie of Pleasantville, Timothy Whitman of Lynchburg, VA, and Larry Whitman of Pleasantville; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two brothers, Dana Whitman and wife Sandra of Cooperstown, and Wayne Whitman and wife Beverly of Cochranton; a sister-in-law, Bernie Whitman of Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lynn Whitman. Family and friends may attend a memorial service at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 1, 2016 at the Titusville Free Methodist Church, 42490 PA-27 Titusville, PA 16354 with Rev. Timothy Maybray officiating. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the Pleasantville Volunteer Fire Dept. immediately following the memorial service.
