Obituary of Dale Russell Bement

Dale Russell Bement, 85, of Centerville, passed away Thursday September 29, 2016 at his home following an extended illness. Dale was born on July 21, 1931 in Centerville, a son of the late Cashus and Bertha Halfast Bement. He was married to Barbara Bunce on October 10, 1952 at Ripley, NY. Dale was a veteran having served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He entered the service on Aug. 19, 1954 at Pittsburgh, PA and served overseas in France. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 6, 1956 at Ft. Hamilton, NY with the rank of specialist 3rd class. Dale was a graduate of Bloomfield High School, class of 1949. He had worked as a breeder for Atlantic Breeders for five years then worked the family farm “Breezy Acres” with his father and son. He was a member of the Centerville Baptist Church; the Cleo J. Ross Post 368 American Legion; and of the Centerville Volunteer Fire Department. He was a CB radio enthusiast at one time. He enjoyed riding his John Deere Gator all over and visiting friends to reminisce about farming and his military service. Dale is survived by his wife of Centerville; two children, Dale Bement and wife Lucy of Centerville and Debbie Smith and husband Scott of Hydetown; a grandson, Daniel Bement and wife Kimberlee of Pittsburgh; two great grandchildren, Annabelle and Garrett Bement of Pittsburgh; and a sister Pauline Lane and husband Jack, and a niece Carolyn Lane, all of Easton, MD. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Carson Bement; a nephew Edward Lane; two uncles Donald and Carson Bement; and two aunts, Erda Hollabaugh and Charlotte Boyles. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. on Monday from 6 to 8 PM and on Tuesday from 10 to 11 AM at which time the funeral service will be conducted with Pastor Gary Kinnear, officiating.
