Obituary of Harold D. Fitch

Mr. Harold D. Fitch, 93, of Titusville, died at 7:35 AM Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at Southwoods Assisted Living Community where he had been a resident for the past five years. Mr. Fitch was born on April 26, 1916 at Neilltown, a son of the late Obert and Alice Marie Burt Fitch. He was married to Helen Elaine McCann on June 28, 1935 at Westfield, NY. She preceded him in death on February 6, 2005. Mr. Fitch was a graduate of Colestock High School, class of 1934 where he played on the high school football team. He had been employed as a machinist for 28 years at the former Struthers Wells Corp. until its closing. He later was employed as a tool engineer at National Forge in Erie until his retirement in 1981. Following retirement, he moved to Lake Placid, Florida where he resided for 25 years until his return to Titusville. Mr. Fitch was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was an avid fisherman and hunter having a love for the outdoors. He was also an amateur painter; enjoyed woodworking; and traveling which included the Middle East. He had a lifelong interest in music, playing numerous instruments including the organ. He enjoyed spending time with his family. Mr. Fitch is survived by the following children; Carole Hall and her husband Clark of Titusville, Barbara Lee Cowperthwaite and her husband John of Vancouver, BC, Anita Louise Khayat of Beechwood, OH, and Harold D. Fitch, Jr. and his wife Susan of Sarasota, FLA; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Jean Fitch Ferguson of Littleton, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Robert and Obert Fitch; a sister, Martha Louise Vosburgh; a sister-in-law, Patricia Fitch; and a brother-in-law, Russell Vosburgh. No public calling hours will be observed. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Interment will be in Union Cemetery. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Titusville Area Alumni Association 302 E. Walnut St. Titusville or to the First Presbyterian Church 216 N. Franklin St. Titusville.
