Obituary of Bessie Christine Lowros

Ms. Bessie Christine Lowros, 91, a resident for the past 4 years at Southwoods Assisted Living Community passed away early morning Wednesday, October 26, 2016. Bessie was born on August 13, 1925, in Titusville to the late Anthony J. and Christina Pesat Lowros. She was a graduate of Titusville High School, Lock Haven State College where she earned a degree in teaching and went on to obtain her master’s degree from Temple University in Philadelphia. Bessie taught at the university level for several years at Temple and Beaver College. She then went to teach health and physical education at the Jr. and Sr. High level for the Delaware school system until her retirement. During those years she also owned and operated a bookstore in Chester, PA. While teaching, she coached several successful field hockey and swim teams and on the recreational level she coached tennis. Bessie loved to swim, play tennis, fishing, going to the beach and spending time at her cottage in Egg Harbor, NJ. She also loved kids, playing with her nieces and nephews, and enjoyed the staff at her Southwoods home. She is survived by her brother, Albert Lowros and his companion Kay O’Neil of Titusville; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bessie was preceded in death by her companion, Virginia “Ginny” Hohman; three brothers, William, Milton, and James Lowros; and four sisters, Dorothy Cervone, Mary Lowros, Gladys Zarbo and Elizabeth Robertson. No calling hours will be observed. A private funeral service is being conducted for immediate family by the Gordon B. Garrett 303 N. Washington St., Titusville, PA 16354. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Southwoods Assisted Living Community 322 S. Martin St., Titusville, PA 16354, Hospice of Crawford County 406 W. Oak St., Titusville, PA 16354, or to the charity of one’s choice.
