Obituary of Robert E. Dowling

Robert E. “Chesty” Dowling, 88, of Titusville, passed away Friday morning November 18, 2016 at the Titusville Area Hospital. Mr. Dowling was born on August 2, 1928 in Titusville, a son of the late Arthur and Florence Kuhn Dowling. He was married to Joan Marie Wolfe on June 8, 1951 at St. Titus Church. She preceded him in death on Feb. 5, 2008. Mr. Dowling was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy, class of 1946. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the US Army. He entered the service on Nov. 8, 1950 and was honorably discharged on Oct. 19, 1956 with the rank of sergeant. He had been employed as a mail carrier with the US Postal Service for 27 years until his retirement in 1993. He had also been employed as a union carpenter and had worked on the construction of Drake Well Museum. Mr. Dowling was a member of St. Titus Church and a member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards, and hunting. He is survived by an uncle, Gerald Dowling and wife Polly of Farrell; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Dowling. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10AM at St. Titus Church with Fr. Walter E. Packard as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Catharines Cemetery.
