He loved hunting, fishing, and operating heavy equipment. While in Florida, he worked for a contractor building homes. This stirred his interest in working with wood and he spent his retirement years doing much woodworking.
Jack also loved to teach the Bible and spent many years as an adult Sunday school teacher. He was especially interested in Bible prophecy. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Titusville. He was a former member of Clarks Chapel United Methodist Church and of the First Alliance Church in Franklin, NC.

In addition to his parents and wife, Jack was preceded in death by a son-in-law, David Schultz; and two sisters, Florence Marie Carter and Betty Jane Fenstermaker.
