Obituary of Doris Elizabeth Piper
Doris Elizabeth Oesterling Piper passed away peacefully with her children by her side on January 4, 2017 at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh.
Doris was born on October 14, 1929, in Clearfield Township, Butler County, daughter of the late Adrian H. Oesterling and Loretta B. Kramer Oesterling.
She graduated from Butler Senior High School in June, 1947. Doris married James E. Piper on July 23, 1955 in St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, Butler, PA. They celebrated their 50th anniversary July 23, 2005.
She worked as a secretary in the office of Pennsylvania Refining Company in Butler PA for 13 years before relocating to Titusville when her late husband accepted a position with Universal Cyclops Specialty Steel Division in 1960. Her hobbies included sewing, travels and visits with her family. She also loved watching tennis matches and Pirates baseball on TV.
Survivors include two sons, Douglas E. Piper and wife Betty of State College PA, and Gregory E. Piper of Pleasant Gap, PA; two daughters, Loretta P. Geiser and husband Ken of Philadelphia, PA, and Patricia E. Lombardi and husband John of Adamstown, MD. She had ten grandchildren, Luke, Quinton, and Ethan Piper; Amanda, Zachary, and Kenny Geiser; and Johnny, Maximo, Vincent, and Tony Lombardi; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband James E. Piper, November 25, 2005; her sister Margaret Oesterling; her brother A. Hugh Oesterling Jr. and his wife Barbara; her sister Luella J. Oesterling (who died in infancy), her sister-in-law Frances Piper Kay and husband Greydon Kay; her sister-in-law Pearl Piper Seitz and husband Ray Seitz.
Doris was a member of St. Titus Church in Titusville where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 9th, 2017 at 10:00 a.m with Fr. D.G. Davis III, as celebrant. Visitors will be accepted at Hennes- Garrett Funeral Home 203 E. Main St., Titusville, PA 16354 on Sunday, January 8th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
