Obituary of Raymond K. Atkinson

Raymond K. Atkinson, 92, of Titusville, passed away Friday evening January 6, 2017 at Titusville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Ray was born on September 9, 1924 in Oil City, a son of the late Floyd and Alma Spence Atkinson. He was formerly married to Rose Henry on Oct. 25, 1949 in Arkansas. She preceded him in death. He had attended the former Shreve School in Titusville. He was a veteran having served in the US Army during World War II. He entered the service on June 11, 1943 at New Cumberland, PA, served in central Europe and the Battle of the Bulge, and was honorably discharged on Feb. 5, 1946 at Indiantown Gap, PA with the rank of technician fifth grade. He had been employed by Quaker State for a number of years until his retirement in 1986. He had also been employed at General Electric in Erie and Windy Hill Farms in Titusville. He was a life member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW. He enjoyed spending his time outdoors. Ray is survived by a son, Dennis Atkinson and companion Dorothy Mangel of Titusville; two daughters, Mary Atkinson Bell and husband Thomas of Titusville and Barbara Atkinson Gibson and companion Sam White of Mercer; grandchildren, Adam Bell and wife Renee of Marienville, Corina Atkinson of Meadville, John Metzgar and wife Sarah of Mercer, and Crystal Perryman and husband Sherell of Clarkton, MD; nine great grandchildren; and six great great grandchilden. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son, David Allen Atkinson; and three sisters, Jean Wolfe, Melba Adams, and Betty Atkinson. No public calling hours will be observed. Private interment will be in St. Catharines Cemetery. The family asks that memorials be made to Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW 206 St. John Street Titusville, PA 16354.
