Obituary of Alene M. Holtz

Mrs. Alene M. Holtz, 88, formerly of Pleasantville passed away Monday afternoon January 23, 2017, at Wesbury United Methodist Community. She had been a resident there for the past several years. Mrs. Holtz was born on January 21, 1929 in West Hickory. She was a daughter of Leon and Lucy Wright Fish. She married Raymond L. Holtz on August 11, 1948 in Pleasantville. Mr. Holtz preceded her in death on November 20, 1991. She was a graduate of Pleasantville High School, class of 1946, and attended Clarion State Teachers College for 2 years. Mrs. Holtz was formerly employed at the Pleasantville grocery store for many years with several different owners. She was also past secretary-treasurer for Oil Creek Twp., Venango County. She was a longtime member of the Pleasantville Presbyterian Church where she also served as a Deaconess and Elder at various times for the church. Mrs. Holtz enjoyed wintering in FL, camping with her husband Raymond and close friends. After retirement she took up the game of golf. She could also always be found with her dog Freddy by her side. She is survived by her son, Gregory L. Holtz of Pleasantville; sister, Irene Burrows and her husband Casey of Lebanon, PA; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Holtz was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter-in-law, Karen Holtz who died in 2010. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville, PA 16354 on Friday from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home on Saturday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Gregory Gillispie, pastor of the Oil City Second Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Pleasantville.
