Obituary of Merlin F. Kunz
Merlin F. Kunz, 86, of Centerville, passed away Saturday morning February 4, 2017 at his residence following an extended illness.
Merlin was born on October 10, 1930 in Titusville, a son of the late Harry and Lela Kerr Kunz. He was married to Dorothy Proper on February 20, 1954 in Titusville.
Merlin was a graduate of Colestock High School, class of 1949.
He was a veteran having served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He entered the service on Sept. 2, 1949 at Erie, PA. He served overseas as a mechanic and was honorably discharged on Dec. 18, 1952 at Indiantown Gap, PA with the rank of sergeant.
Merlin had been employed at the former Cytemp Specialty Steel Corp. for a number of years until his retirement from there upon its closing. He was a long time grain farmer and also a former Rome Twp. supervisor. He had also been employed at Matteson Potato Farm.
Merlin was a member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW. He enjoyed farming, working on tractors, and spending time with his grandchildren and family.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy of Centerville; three children, Ronda DeLaO and husband Joe of Titusville, Steve Kunz and companion Karen Bickel of Centerville, and Brenda Marvin and husband Jack of Centerville; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Kunz.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Tuesday from 1 to 3 PM at which time the funeral service will be conducted with Pastor Gary Kinnear officiating.
