Obituary of Frederick J. Tarr

Frederick J. Tarr, 83, of 241 Kane Run Rd. Oil City, died unexpectedly Wednesday evening January 12, 2011 at UPMC Northwest in Seneca. Mr. Tarr was born on March 8, 1927 at Cherrytree Twp., Venango Co., a son of the late Robert and Ruth Irene Horn Tarr. He was married to Lura Mae Dempsey on March 18, 1947 at Cherrytree. She preceded him in death on July 22, 2007. Mr. Tarr had attended the Cherrytree School. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army. Mr. Tarr had been employed as an equipment operator for PennDOT for a number of years until his retirement in 1988. He had previously been employed at the former National Forge in Titusville. Mr. Tarr had attended the Cherrytree United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and going to auctions. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and attending family reunions. He also enjoyed his pet dogs and cat. Mr. Tarr is survived by a daughter, Marilyn McMullen and her husband Jan of Lugoff, SC; two sons, Robert and Brian Tarr of Kaneville; four grandchildren, Brenda Miller and her husband Tim, Deborah McAfoose and her husband Steven, Thomas McMullen and his wife Nicole, and Michael McMullen; five great grandchildren, Kyle and Ryan Miller, Katye and Cody McAfoose, and Elizabeth McMullen; a brother, George C. Tarr of Dempseytown; three sisters, Shirley Solinger and her husband Gene of Titusville, Mary Ritchey of Oil City, and Karla Ohl and her husband John of Titusville; a close friend, Freda Heliker of Titusville; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Warren Horn, George DeLong, and Raymond Tarr. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and attend the funeral service there on Monday at 11:00 AM with Rev. Earl Dykes, pastor of the Cherrytree United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Cherrytree Cemetery. The family asks that memorials may be made to the Oakland Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept. or to the Cherrytree United Methodist Church. FLOWERS
