Obituary of Betty Jean Atkins

Betty Jean Atkins, 91, of Central Towers in Titusville, passed away Friday morning March 31, 2017 at the Titusville Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. She was born on March 6, 1926 in Pleasantville, a daughter of the late Arthur “Pud” Weekley and Annis Carson Weekley. Jean was a graduate of Pleasantville High School, class of 1944. She married Ray Atkins on Dec. 6, 1946 in Pleasantville and lived most of her life in the same house her husband built. He preceded her in death on May 17, 2011 after 64 years of marriage. Jean was a member of the Pleasantville Presbyterian Church. She had worked for her father at the former Grady’s Dairy Isle for many years until it closed due to smoke damage from a fire. She then worked at the Penn Dress Shop and later became sole owner of it until she had to close due to construction. Jean is survived by a daughter, Susan Atkins Phillips and her husband Sam of Dante, VA; a son, Randal Atkins of Pittsburgh; 7 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Graham; a sister, B. Colleen Weekley; and a grandson, Russell “Rusty” Atkins. No public calling hours will be observed. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family asks that memorials be made to the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home.
