Obituary of Eugene P. Dahle
Mr. Eugene P. “Gene” Dahle, 81, of 112 N. Drake St., Titusville died at 2:45 PM on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Country Acres Personal Care Home.
Mr. Dahle was born on Feb. 2, 1929 in Oil City to the late Homer B. and Mary C. Schultz Dahle. He married Maria Viglo on July 15, 1952 at St. James Memorial Episcopal Church. Mrs. Dahle preceded him in death on October 17, 2010.
He was a graduate of Sunville High School, class of 1946.
Mr. Dahle was a veteran of the US Navy. He entered the service on Aug. 30, 1950. During that time he was stationed on 8 different aircraft carriers and was a bombardier on the Avengers and Guardian aircrafts. He was honorably discharged on June 23, 1954 with the rank of Airman 2nd Class.
He was formerly employed for over 33 years at Cyclops Specialty Steel Corp as a carpenter. He also worked during that time at Dahle Beverage/ and Coal Supply for 25 years.
Mr. Dahle was an active member of St. James Memorial Episcopal Church where he sang in the choir and served on the church Vespers. He was twice a past President of the Titusville Lions Club, which he joined in 1980. During that time he was awarded the MeIvin Jones award for dedicated humanitarian services. He also served on the Lions District Governors board for several years, and was an avid Steelers fan.
Mr. Dahle is survived by two sons, Ronald Dahle and wife Diane of Titusville, Steven Dahle and wife Becky of Stow, OH; 6 grandchildren, Jason Hennessy of MD, Tim Dahle of Edinboro, Shane Dahle and Erin Dahle of Titusville, Laura Espersen and husband David of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Joseph Dahle of Stow, OH; a sister, Helen Boyersmith of Meadville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Edward Dahle who died in infancy; four brothers, Francis, Donald, Floyd and Wayne Dahle; and two sisters, Twila Smith and Evelyn Dahle.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home today (Monday) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Funeral services will be conducted from St. James Memorial Episcopal Church on Tuesday at 2:00 PM with Fr. William French, officiating.
Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
