Obituary of Gerald L. Smith
Mr. Gerald L. Smith, Jr., 66, of 13105 Main St. Hydetown, died at 6:00 PM Sunday, March 7, 2010 at his residence.
Mr. Smith was born on August 19, 1943 in Meadville, a son of the late Gerald and Margaret Consla Smith. He was married to Diana J. Latshaw on April 3, 1965 in Hydetown. She preceded him in death on Dec. 31, 2003.
Mr. Smith was a graduate of Townville High School. He had been employed as a welder at Joy Global (Joy Manufacturing) in Franklin for over 35 years.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict having served with the US Navy. He entered the service on July 10, 1964 and served on the USS Gunston Hall. He was honorably discharged on July 8, 1968 at Bainbridge, Maryland.
Mr. Smith was a member of the Cleo J. Ross Post No. 368 American Legion; and a former member of the Bruce Shorts Post No. 5958 VFW. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on cars and playing the lottery.
Mr. Smith is survived by the following children; Debbie Markle, Darrin Smith and wife Lisa of Titusville, Donald Smith and wife Tammy of Titusville, and Michelle Breindel and husband Russ of Hershey, PA; 9 grandchildren, Patrick, Rachele and Riley Markle, Trevor Rumbaugh, Brandon, Nathan and Noah Breindel, Sarah Acel, and Ayden Smith; three brothers, Russell Smith, Ken Smith and Gary Smith, all of Townville; three sisters, Sheila Humes and Elaine Daub, both of Townville, and Gloria Rodgers of New Castle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Diamond United Methodist Church on Wednesday from noon to 2:00 PM at which time the funeral service will be conducted with Rev. Gerald Miller, officiating.
Interment will be in East Troy Cemetery with full military rites.
The family asks that memorials be made to Hospice of Crawford County 310 N. Monroe St. Titusville, PA 16354.
