Obituary of Myrtle F. Nadolny
Myrtle F. Nadolny, age 95, of Titusville, passed away peacefully at 12:45 am, Sunday, April 18, 2010 at Country Acres Personal Care Home. She had been a resident there since July, 2009. She was the last of her immediate family.
Myrtle was born on November 27, 1914, in Oakvale, Mississippi, the daughter of John and Florence Stringer Branton. As a child, she and her siblings helped to work the family farm, working the fields and picking cotton. Following her graduation from high school, she obtained her beautician license. She also went to work at Reliance Manufacturing, alongside her two sisters, and worked there for ten years.
During World War II, Myrtle and her sister, Ann, joined the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps, to serve our country, and with the hopes of seeing the country and the world. Following her basic training in Daytona Beach, Florida, she was assigned to Camp Shelby, Mississippi, which was just 35 miles from her home. She worked as a secretary in the motor pool, and it was there that she met her future husband, Clarence P. “Nate” Nadolny, who was serving as a Military Policeman at Camp Shelby. They were married at the home of Myrtle’s parents in Columbia, Mississippi on September 2, 1944. He preceded her in death on August 12, 2006.
Following Clarence and Myrtle’s discharge from the Army in February, 1946, they moved to Titusville, Clarence’s hometown, and raised their family. Over the years, Myrtle was employed at several locations, including the former Loblaw’s grocery store and for a short time at Ellis “Carload” Day’s, now Day’s Home Furnishings. Her primary occupation, however, and the one of which she was most proud, was caring for her family.
She was a member of St. Walburga Church, where she formerly served as a Hospitality Minister, and was formerly a member of the Titusville Lioness Club.
Myrtle was an accomplished seamstress and loved to embroider and do needlepoint and crewel. She loved to read and do word puzzles, and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds. But her favorite thing to do was spend time with her husband, children, and grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, James P. Nadolny and his wife, Ann, of Fairview; her daughter, Judith Nadolny Taylor of Titusville; her daughter-in-law, Katherine Nadolny of Erie; six grandchildren, Lisa Nadolny, Jennifer Nadolny, and Matthew Nadolny of South Carolina; Michael Nadolny, Jessica Nadolny, and Kevin Nadolny of Erie; two great grandchildren, Kaidyn Nadolny of South Carolina and Cassandra Lilley of Erie; three sisters-in-law, Jean Schoch, Doris Budzinski, and Dolores Nadolny, all of Titusville; a brother-in-law, Ralph Hartman of Dickinson, North Dakota; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, and her husband Clarence, she was preceded in death by her son, Gerald W. Nadolny, who just passed away on March 20, 2010; two sisters, Bertha Witte and Ann Hartman; a brother, John Branton; a half-sister, Belle Stringer; several other half-sisters and brothers; her son-in-law, Richard W. “Dick” Taylor; and an infant son, Geoffrey, and an infant daughter, Donna Marie.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville on Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM. A Vigil Service will be conducted by Fr. D.G. Davis III at 3:45 PM. Further visitation will take place from 10 to 11 AM in in St. Walburga Church on Wednesday with a mass of Christian Burial to follow celebrated by Fr. D.G. Davis II.
Interment will be in St. Walburga Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Walburga Church, through the Catholic Community of Titusville, 513 W. Main Street, Titusville, or to the charity of one’s choice.
