Obituary of Virginia A Dowling

Virginia A. “Ginny” Dowling, 99, of Titusville, passed away Wednesday evening May 10, 2017 at her home.

            Ginny was born on August 21, 1917 at Fagundas, PA, a daughter of the late Ernest and Viola Downey Vroman.  She was married to Louis P. “Lou” Dowling on Feb. 17, 1947 at Warren, PA.  He preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1989.

            She was a graduate of Colestock High School, class of 1935.  Prior to her marriage, she had been employed at New Process in Warren for over ten years.  She then raised her children and in the 1960’s returned working.  She worked at Dale’s Dress Shop and also with her sister at Lee Casuals Dress Shop.

            Ginny was a member of St. Titus Church.  She was an avid card player playing duplicate bridge and 500.  She was a talented seamstress and also enjoyed doing cross stitch and knitting.  In her earlier years, she enjoyed gardening, especially tending to her African Violets.

            She is survived by two children, Margaret Denlinger, and Jerome Dowling and his wife Deborah, all of Titusville; the following grandchildren, Joshua Dowling of Titusville, Marie Denlinger and husband Fred Jones of Imperial, PA, Rachel Denlinger-Apte and husband Dinesh Apte of Providence, RI, Leslie Denlinger and fiancée Joe Burmingham of Pittsburgh, Allison Dowling of Washington, DC and Ian Dowling and fiancée Chloe Ruot of Grapevine, TX; a great grandson, Grant Jones; a half-brother, Hugh Vroman of Erie; and a half-sister, Shirley Peterson and husband Harold of Titusville.

            In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James Dowling; a granddaughter, Christina Lynn Dowling; a sister, Genevieve Dowling; and a half-brother, Francis Vroman.

            No public calling hours will be observed.  A private commital service will be conducted for the family.

            Interment will be in St. Catharines Cemetery.

            The family asks that memorials be made to Hospice of Crawford County 406 W. Oak St. Titusville, PA 16354.  They also wish to thank the staff of Hospice for the excellent care given to Virginia as well as family support.
