Obituary of Clyde "Mac" McConnell
Mr. Clyde W. “Mac” McConnell, 98, formerly of Marienville, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Southwoods Assisted Living Community.
He was born in Pittsburgh on December 30, 1918 to the late Wilbert and Edith Keener McConnell.
Mac grew up during the depression years in Perrysville on the north side of Pittsburgh. As a youngster he spent many days at his grandfather’s farm, Granddaddy Keener, in Slate Lick, PA.
After high school he worked for Mellon Securities and later Mellon Bank.
Mac served as a supply sergeant in the US Army from 1941-1945 in England as part of the 355th Fighter Group, and later served again during the Korean Conflict.
He retired from the US Postal Service in 1980.
He enjoyed playing baseball, ice skating, hunting, and fly fishing. In his later years he became an accomplished ballroom dancer. He enjoyed playing the violin and piano. For many years he helped raise and stock trout for the Marienville Rod and Gun Club.
Mac is survived by a sister, Jane Braun of Tidioute; several nieces and nephews, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Doris Woodall, Ruth Rassmussen, and June DeCorso.
A private interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Wexford, PA with full military rights observed.
