Obituary of Gerald Kenneth Proper

Gerald Proper was the oldest living Proper to the age of 90 for 7 generations. Married June 26, 1948 to former Grace Irene McCauley.  He had many jobs through the years. He was a welder by trade but he retired from Pennzoil as an operator in the De waxing unit. The last years he spent caring for his wife with dementia were the hardest. He thanked the Man Upstairs for all their many years together every day. He fought a good fight with cancer during the last 5 years which he refused treatment in 2012 to take care of his wife, without complaining. 

He is survived by his wife, Two daughters: Joyce Proper Schwindt (Ed), Sherry Shawgo (Jim), Three Grandchildren: Dana Shawgo (Heidi), Lela Mullighan (John), Lacey Mileski, Three great grandchildren: Breana Grace Shawgo, Mackenzie Grace and Kolson Richard Mullighan, Brother-in-Law: Donald McCauley (Nancy), and many nieces and nephews. He had two special nephews: Randy and Gary Proper and a niece: Shirley Schwab and husband Denny.  Proceeded him in death was his parents: Lloyd and Lela Proper, daughter: Robin Proper, brother: Wayne Proper and wife June Proper and many Brother and Sister in laws.   

No viewing or memorial service will be held until the demise of his wife. At that time a memorial will be held to celebrate their lives together.  

 

You can remember Gerald in many ways what most explains him is the Song from Frank Sinatra "I did it my way", and he did a great job!
