Obituary of Roy S Briggs

       

               Mr. Roy S. Briggs, 84, of Titusville, passed away on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at his residence.

               He was born in Jeannette, PA on April 3, 1933 to the late Arthur L. Briggs and Dolly L. Loughner Briggs Golda.

               Roy was a veteran having served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict.  He entered the service on February 3, 1953 in Buffalo, NY, and was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant on February 2, 1956 in San Francisco, CA.

               He married Gloria J. Dunkle on October 20, 1972 in Titusville.

               Roy worked at Polk Center as a volunteer resource coordinator for nineteen years, retiring in 1994, and previously at Loblaws for seventeen years.

               He was a member at St. Walburga Church since 1952.

               Roy was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, where he served as Faithful Navigator.

               He enjoyed collecting harmonicas, which he played, model trains, and spending time with his family.

               Roy is survived by his loving wife of forty-four years, Gloria Briggs of Titusville; five children, Stephen J. Briggs of Titusville, Matthew B. Briggs and wife Debbie of Mechanicsburg, Wolfgang V. Briggs and wife Tonya of Butler, Cathy A. Smith of Titusville, and Christine “Cris” M. Landas and husband Steven of Riverside, CA; fifteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret Wahl of Butler, Sally Wiese and husband Robert of Dayton, OH, and Dolly Kaster of Titusville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

               He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas A. Briggs; a brother, Arthur Briggs; and two sisters, infant Mary Briggs and Irene Spinks.  He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Amerens W. Checker in July 1970.

               Friends and family are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 1:00 PM at St. Walburga Church, 120 Brook Street, Titusville, PA 16354, with Father Mark Mastrian as celebrant.

               Inurnment will be in St. Catharines Cemetery.

               Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
