Obituary of William Marshall Cunningham
Mr. William M. Cunningham, 88, formerly of Warren, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Southwoods Assisted Living.
He was born in Sandy Township, Dubois, on January 23, 1929 to the late James M. and Violet Brenton Cunningham.
Mr. Cunningham graduated from Dubois High School, class of 1946, and after being in the military he graduated from Dubois Business College in 1950 with an Associates in Accounting and Business.
He entered the United States Navy on June 12, 1946 in Pittsburgh, PA and served during World War II; having been honorably discharged on April 22, 1948 in Norfolk, VA.
William married Catherine Defibaugh on May 22, 1954 in Smethport, PA. She preceded him in death on October 9, 2008.
He began working for Sylvania in 1950 and was relocated with them several times in Emporium, Smethport, Titusville, and Warren. He retired in 1989, after thirty-nine years of employment.
William enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and after his retirement he enjoyed outdoor photography. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his four children, Cathy Thomas and husband Gary of Titusville, Linda Miller and husband Glenn of Flower Mound, TX, Patricia Nutt and husband Jim of Warren and James Cunningham and wife Emily of Clarion; ten grandchildren, Amy Pabon and husband Mario of Newburg, NY, Jeffrey Thomas and wife Linda of Titusville, Caitlin Miller of San Diego, CA, Ryan Miller of Austin, TX, Derek Collins of Tuscan, AZ, Benjamin Nutt of Warren, Donald, Blaise, Mercedes, and Raven Cunningham of Clarion; four great grandchildren, Jessica, Hunter, Ava, and Mya; and a sister, Lois Crawford and Randy of Brockway.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Violet Cunningham.
Friends and family are welcome to attend a funeral service at Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home, 303 N. Washington St., Titusville, PA 16354 on Friday, September 15, 2017 at 2 PM with Mrs. Jacqueline Wagner officiating and full military rights observed.
Interment will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Smethport, PA.
The family would like to thank the staff at Southwoods Assisted Living for their care, compassion, and friendship during Williams stay there.
