Obituary of Edwin L. Brown
Mr. Edwin L. “Ted” Brown, Jr., 79, of 615 W. Spruce St., Titusville died at 3:00 AM on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at his residence.
Mr. Brown was born on April 3, 1931 in Hydetown to the late Edwin L Brown, Sr. and Rhea (Beers) Brown. He married Nancy Motter on June 29, 1957 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ.
He was a graduate of Titusville High School, class of 1949.
Mr. Brown entered the US Army on Oct. 2, 1952, at Pittsburgh and was honorably discharged on September 8, 1954, with the rank of Corporal.
He returned to Titusville and was employed by the former Struthers Wells Corp. for 18 years when the plant closed. He then worked for Cytemp Specialty Steel Corp. for 24 years in the Cold Mill as a roller. He retired in January of 1993.
Mr. Brown was a member at the former St. Paul’s United Church of Christ where he served as part-time pianist and was a current member of the First Presbyterian Church.
He was a golf enthusiast and belonged to the Elder Statesman Golf League. Ted was an avid hunter and neighborhood handyman. Over the years his greatest enjoyment was watching his sons and grandchildren participate in sporting events. In his spare time he enjoyed reading, playing the piano and organ.
Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Nancy Brown of Titusville; three sons, Steven Brown and wife Sheri of Portland, OR, David Brown and wife Patti of Corry, Kevin Brown of St. Mary’s; 6 grandchildren, Montana Brown and Alex Brown of Portland, OR, Katiy Brown of Pittsburgh, Michael Brown, Patrick Brown of Corry, Dylan Brown of Punxsutawney; brother-in-law, Richard Motter and wife Cecelia of Titusville; and numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Brown and a sister, Carolyn Brown who both died at an early age.
Friends may call at the First Presbyterian Church on Friday from 111:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Emerson Parlor. The funeral service will take place at 1:00 PM in the church sanctuary with Dr. Barry E. Cressman, pastor of the church, officiating. A military flag presentation will be conducted by officers of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958, VFW.
A private interment will be at Union Cemetery.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Crawford Co. 310 N. Monroe St., Titusville, the First Presbyterian Church 216 N. Franklin St., Titusville or to the Titusville Hospital Auxiliary 406 W. Oak St., Titusville, PA 16354.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home.
