Obituary of Terrance Stover
Mr. Terrance K. Stover, 71, of 12558 Main St., Hydetown died at 11:25 pm on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Stover was born on June 5, 1939 at Millheim to the late John E. and Margaret Brindle Stover. He married Lynne Roberts on December 29, 1961 at Bellefonte .
He was a graduate of Bellefonte Senior High School in 1957, and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in education and social studies at Pennsylvania State University in 1961. In 1965, he obtained his Master’s Degree in business education with a minor in psychology at Pennsylvania State University.
Mr. Stover was employed for 35 years as a business education teacher at the Titusville Area School District. For 30, of those years he was the head of the business education department and was also the advisor to the Titusville High School year book staff. He retired in 1977.
He was Pennsylvania certified in vocational business education and social studies, as well as, a permanent certified specialist and supervisor in school programing.
Mr. Stover was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Titusville, an Elder of the church and Clerk of Sessions. He was the Secretary of The Pennsylvania State Republican Committee from 1994 to 2004, mayor of Hydetown Borough from 2006 to the present, a team member of the training staff for the National Republican Committee from 1998 to 2008, Crawford County Republican Chairman from 1984 to 1996, Republican Committeeman for Hydetown Borough, on the board of directors at Benson Memorial Library for 18 years, board of directors and treasurer for Titusville Summer Theater from 1969 to the present and one of the founding members of the Titusville Summer Theater , as well as, active in many of the performances, board of directors at Titusville Area Associated Charities, a charter member and treasurer of the Hydetown Vol. Fire Department, a task force member of education for former Governor Tom Ridge’s transition team, auditor of Hydetown Borough for 12 years, and a social member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW in Titusville.
He was a delegate to the 1988 Republican National Convention in New Orleans, LA, and assisted the state republican staff at the convention. In 2000 he was a delegate for the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia. He was also a commissioner for the PA. Professional Standards and Practices Commission in the department of education, conducted formal and private study of Pennsylvania and United States history, and was the layout and design editor of: Titusville, An Illustrated History written by Mabel Clark.
Mr. Stover is survived by his wife, Lynne Stover of Hydetown; three children, Ellen M. Stover and life partner, Stephanie Hoback of Oil City, Andrew K. Stover and wife Sherry of Titusville, Joseph E. Stover and wife Katherine of Sherman Dale; five grandchildren, Amanda Kay Stover, Laird Buchan Stover, Aidan Karrick Stover, Ethen Joseph Stover, Samuel Terrance Stover; two brothers, John Richard Stover and wife Daisy of Mechanicsburg, Chris S. Stover and wife Brenda of New Cumberland; one sister, Bonnie Osterling and husband Bob of Camp Hill; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville, on Friday, March 25th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral services will be conducted from the First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 26th at 2:00 pm with Dr. Barry E. Cressman, officiating.
Interment will be in Centre County Memorial Park in State College.
