Obituary of Marilyn Kay Whitman

Marilyn Kay “Katie” Whitman, 61, of 15668 Old Route 8 North Centerville, died Saturday morning March 19, 2011 at the Titusville Area Hospital while surrounded by her loving family. Katie was born on May 19, 1949 in Titusville, a daughter of Edna Anthony Covell and the late Harold Covell. She was married to Christopher Whitman on May 1, 1970 at St. Titus Church. Katie was a graduate of the Titusville High School, class of 1967. She had been employed as bank manager at PNC Bank in Titusville until her illness. She had also been employed at the former Health Mart in Titusville. Katie enjoyed crocheting, reading, gardening, baking and vacationing. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her beagle Spikey. She is survived by her husband, Chris Whitman of Centerville; her mother, Edna Covell of Titusville; her mother-in-law, Marlin Whitman of Titusville; two sons, Kevin Whitman and wife Jessie, and Jeffrey Whitman and wife Jackie, all of Centerville; six grandchildren, Allison, Courtney, Alan, Kaili, Brooklyn and J.J.; a step-granddaughter, Kaylee Ann; two brothers, Daniel Covell and wife Shelley of Grand Valley and Roger Covell and wife Kristi of Titusville; a sister, Carol Dempsey of Meadville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A vigil service will be conducted Tuesday at 3:45 PM at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 AM at St. Titus Church with Fr. D.G. Davis III, pastor of the Titusville Catholic Community, as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Catharines Cemetery. The family asks that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society 320 Bilmar Dr. Pittsburgh, PA 15205. FLOWERS
