Obituary of Samuel G. Hopkins

Mr. Samuel G. Hopkins, 71, of Titusville, passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie.

                He was born in Titusville on July 12, 1946 to the late Clyde “Hoppy” and Sarah Grubb Hopkins.

                Samuel graduated from Titusville High School, class of 1964.  He was a 1968 graduate at Westminster College.

                He married Cheryl Henrikson Hopkins in 1968, and she preceded him in death on January 30, 1984.

                Samuel later married Mary Lou Gartner Hopkins on February 28, 1987.

                He was the owner of Hoppy’s Sporting Goods for over thirty years, having purchased it from his father.

                Samuel was a Titusville Fireman for a number of years, and taught Physics and Chemistry.

                He was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time at his cottage at Canadohta Lake with family and friends, and he loved welcoming people to the lake. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Samuel is survived by his wife of thirty-one years, Mary Lou Hopkins of Titusville; a daughter, Kara Dawson and husband Mac of Gainesville, FL; three sons, Mark Hopkins and wife Debbie of Titusville, Dan Hopkins and wife Trish of Virginia Beach, VA, and Jeff Hopkins and wife Hillary of Boise, ID; three grandchildren, Danny and Drew Dawson, and Riley Hopkins; a step-daughter, Lisa Williamson and husband Jeff of Erie; two step-sons, David Staskiewicz of Oil City, and Eric Staskiewicz and wife Wendy of Roxboro, NC; two step-grandsons, Jack Carone and Evan Staskiewicz; and a step-granddaughter, Zoe Staskiewicz.

                He was preceded in death by a brother, Clyde “Skip” Hopkins.

                No public calling hours will be observed.  A celebration of life will be held this summer.
