Obituary of Clyde L. Jackson
Clyde L. “Jerry” Jackson, Jr., 65, of 43084 Buells Corners Rd. Spartansburg, died Thursday, March 24, 2011 at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie.
Jerry was born on January 2, 1946 in Titusville, a son of the late Clyde L. and Madeline Baker Jackson. He was married to Alice Southwick on July 20, 1968.
He was a graduate of Colestock High School, class of 1964. Following school, he enlisted in the Army on Aug. 28, 1964 at Cleveland, OH. He served a tour in Vietnam and was honorably discharged on Aug. 27, 1970.
Jerry had worked for the Matteson family as a mechanic and also for Hutcheson Saw Mill. He later drove truck for Sparty Woods and CB Hardwoods before retiring due to disability. He loved to drive for the amish community.
Jerry enjoyed working on his vehicles. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and his little amish kids. He was a member of the Bruce Shorts Post No. 5958 VFW and of the Union City American Legion Post.
He is survived by his wife of Spartansburg; his mother-in-law, Bessie Sheffer of Spartansburg; five children, Sonda Jackson of Spartansburg, Marsha Jackson and companion Rick Whitney of Spartansburg, Clyde L. Jackson III and wife Tracy of Titusville, Aric Jackson of Spartansburg, and Geri Lynn Whitney and husband Richard of Spartansburg; 14 grandchildren; four brothers, Lawrence A. Jackson, Sr. and wife Rhonda, Robert D. Jackson and wife Donna, Dennis J. “Bill” Jackson and wife Dottie, all of Titusville, and Daniel G. Jackson and wife Cindy of Centerville; two sisters, Kathleen Muir of Pleasantville and Linda Matteson and husband Bernard of Centerville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and attend the funeral service on Monday at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Pastor Terri Warner of Henderson Chapel and Rev. John L. Theuret of the Centerville Free Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Spartansburg with full military rites.
