Obituary of Mardell Lewis Graves Nichols
Mardell Lewis Graves Nichols has gone to be with her Lord on Sunday April 29, 2018 at home with family by her side after an extended illness.
She was born in Buckhannon, West Virginia on January 8, 1922 to Mary Alice Pratt Lewis and Lloyd Ellis Lewis. She was raised in Buckhannon and later moved to Townville, PA and graduated from Townville High School.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Harry C. Graves whom she married in 1940, son Mack Graves, son-in-law Milo Capron, and two great grandchildren. Also, her second husband Robert Nichols whom she married in 1992.
Mardell is survived by five sons, Irwin Brad Graves (Rui Wang), Harold Graves, Sr. (Thelma), David Graves (Belinda), Samuel Graves, Herbert Graves and three daughters Mary Graves Kieffer (Michael), Rhonda Graves Capron and Susan Graves Kirsch (Kim). There are 24 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mardell was the matriarch of the Graves family, homestead, and a leader in the community. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Spartansburg, PA. She was also an aide at Warren State Hospital while caring for her family from which she retired. She loved her gardening, canning and watching the wildlife at the farm. She was also a volunteer for several organizations.
No calling hours will be observed. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at the First Baptist Church of Spartansburg, 156 Main S.t, Spartansburg, PA 16434, at 11 AM on Saturday, May 5, 2018.
Interment will be in Tryonville Cemetery, Tryonville, PA.
