Obituary of Ronald N. Gates

Ronald N. Gates, 75, of 122 E. Bloss St. Titusville, passed away Wednesday morning May 2, 2018 at his residence.

            Ron was born on Sept. 22, 1942 in Titusville, a son of Helen Burdick Kuhn and the late Gilbert Gates, Jr.  He was married to Joan Ringhoff on July 16, 1966 in Titusville.

            Ron was a graduate of Titusville High School, class of 1960 and also a graduate of Penn State Behrend earning his associate degree in engineering.

            Ron started his career at the former Struthers Wells Corp. in Titusville where he worked for several years, then was employed at National Forge in Irvine as a computer draftsman analyst for 40 years until his retirement from there.

            He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Titusville and a social member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW.  He enjoyed hunting in his earlier years.

            Ron enjoyed traveling with his wife; spending time with his family, especially attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.  He also enjoyed spending the last 20 years camping at Red Oak Campgrounds at Russell, PA.

            In addition to his wife Joan of Titusville, Ron is survived by his mother Helen Kuhn of Titusville; three children, Brian N. Gates of Pleasantville, Cheryl Burton and husband Robert of Tionesta, and Darla Gates of Titusville; four grandchildren, Tyler and Taylor Gates of Pleasantville, Cory Burton and wife Valerie of Bentleyville, PA, and Dylan Burton of Tionesta; a great grandson, Heath Burton; a brother, James Kuhn and companion Martha Miller of Cherrytree; and numerous nieces and nephews.

            No public calling hours will be observed.  A private service for the family will be conducted today (Friday) with Rev. Larry Reitz of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.

            Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

            The family asks that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church 302 W. Walnut St. Titusville, PA 16354, or to the American Heart Association 3025 French St. Erie, PA 16504 (www.heart.org).
