Obituary of Joan Forssell
Joan M. Forssell, 87, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, formerly of Titusville, died December 14th, 2017 in Oklahoma.
She was born on May 25th, 1930 in Santa Rosa, California and lived in that area for all of her early life, including time on the Russian River in Guerneville, CA. She graduated from Ursuline High School in Santa Rosa and from Dominican College in San Rafael, CA and moved to San Francisco where she was a first grade teacher.
In San Francisco she met George Forssell, an army officer originally from Titusville who at that time was stationed at the Presidio, and they were married in April of 1953. Following their time in San Francisco, they enjoyed two tours living in Germany as well as living at West Point, NY while George taught at the military academy.
In 1965, they moved to Titusville after George’s retirement from the army and spent more than 20 years there with both of their children graduating from Titusville High School.
Joan loved living in different places and she and George moved to Florida, Nevada, and Sewickely, PA in the 20 years after leaving Titusville in 1989. Shortly after George passed in 2010, Joan moved to Oklahoma to live with her daughter, Katie.
She is survived by her daughter, Katie Rodgers of Oklahoma City, OK; her son, Andy Forssell of Santa Monica, CA; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her three siblings, all Californians.
Friends may attend a graveside service at 10 AM on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Troy Center Cemetery, Titusville, PA with Father Walter E. Packard officiating, pastor of St. Titus Church.
