Obituary of Gustaf A. Anderson

Mr. Gustaf A. “Gus” Anderson, Jr., 85, of North East passed away on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at UPMC Hamot in Erie.

            Mr. Anderson was born on January 9, 1933, in Erie to the late Gustaf A. Anderson, Sr. and Henrietta (Stankiewicz) Anderson-Daub. He married Barbara E. Carr on July 14, 1951, in Erie.

            He was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School and attended a carpentry trade school in Erie.  On September 16, 1952, he entered the US Navy and was honorably discharged on July 19, 1954.

            Gus worked 2 summers during high school for Wilson Rigging moving houses. He then went to work for Hammermill Paper Co. as a millwright from 1951until his retirement in 1995.

            He was a former Mensa member, a member of the North East Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion, sang with the Danish Choristers in Erie, coached baseball and football with the Bay City football team, and was active in the Vietnam Veterans of America in Virginia.

            Gus enjoyed doing woodworking, throwing darts with friends in Erie and Virginia Beach, and an avid Green Bay Packers fan.

            He is survived by his wife, Barbara Anderson of North East; his children, Debra Penton of Titusville, Barbara Proper and husband Dwight of Titusville, Lynn Burger and husband Larry of Virginia Beach, Jeffrey Anderson and wife Patricia of Erie, Nicholas Anderson and wife Deana of Erie; 14 grandchildren, Robert Gibbens and wife Theresia of Gaithersburg, MD, StaceyAna Coldiron and husband James of Bonaire, GA, Ryan Gibbens and wife Erin of Reston, VA, Rory Gibbens and wife Amy of Charlottesville, VA, Sarah Calhoun and husband Brian of Bonaire, GA, Travis Gibbens of W. Brandywine, Sarah Cevetto and husband Ralph of Niles, OH, Garrett Proper and wife Amy of Baden, Lara Morey and husband Chico of Virginia Beach, VA, Landrew Burger of Virginia Beach, VA, Savannah Anderson of Erie, Ashley Ostrowski and husband John of North East, Katie and Rachel Anderson of Erie; 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, James Anderson of Erie, Harry Daub and wife Cheryle of FL; 2 sisters, Nancy Konieczki and Karen Milewski of Erie; and numerous nieces and nephews.

            Gus was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Barbara Leigh Proper; a step-father, Harry Daub; and 2 brothers, Roger Anderson and Richard Daub.

            No funeral services are being observed at this time.
