Obituary of Michael J. Paul

Mr. Michael J. “Papa” Paul, 72, of Chestnut St., Pleasantville, PA passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2018, at Penn Highlands Hospital in Brookville.

               Mr. Paul was born on April 20, 1946, in Jamestown, NY to the late William D. Paul and Mary Lois (Johnson) Paul Spacht. He married Nancy Armbrust on September 27, 1969 in Sheldon, NY.

               He was a graduate of Sherman Central High School in Sherman, NY and Lumber Inspection School in Memphis, TN.

               Michael was a veteran of U.S. Marine Corp having served overseas in Vietnam. He entered the service on January 25, 1966. He was assigned to Company C and honorably discharged on January 24, 1968, with the rank of Lance Corporal.

               He was employed for over 30 years in the lumber industry as a dry kiln operator at Ramblewood in Holland, NY, American Lumber in Union City and retired in 2008 from Weyerhaeuser in Titusville

               Michael was a volunteer fireman previously with the Stanley Hose Company in Sherman, NY, Holland Vol. Fire Department and the Pleasantville Vol. Fire Department.

               He was a member of St. Walburga Church in Titusville, the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW, a Penn State Master gardener, Western NY Hosta Society with 200 varieties of plants at his home in Pleasantville.

               Michael enjoyed gardening, woodworking, rooting for his favorite teams the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Penguins, but most importantly cherished spending time with his grandchildren. 

               He is survived by his wife Nancy Paul of Pleasantville; 4 children, Scott Paul and Angela of Smithfield, VA, Sheila Paul of Pleasantville, Mark Paul & Tiffany of Columbus, OH, Mike Paul and Melissa of Pittsburgh; 6 grandchildren, Tyler, Connor, Harrison “Harry”, Finnian “Finn”, Mason and Regan; 3 brothers, James, Patrick, and Jerome; 8 sisters, Kathy, Sue, Debbie, Vicki, Mary Lou, Connie, Judy, and Brenda; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

               Michael was preceded in death by 2 brothers, William and Nicholas.

               Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St., Titusville, PA 16354 on Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home on Saturday at 10:00 AM with Fr. Walter E. Packard, officiating and full military rites observed.

               Interment will be in Strykersville, NY
