Obituary of Eugene "Gene" Nelson

Eugene A. “Gene” Nelson, 92, of Titusville, passed away Tuesday October 23, 2018 at Southwoods Assisted Living Community in Titusville.

            Gene was born on July 16, 1926 at Titusville, PA, a son of the late Arthur and Emma Sandberg Nelson.  He was married to Ruth Bennett on Feb. 6, 1954 at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Oil City.  She preceded him in death on March 17, 2018.

            Gene was a graduate of Colestock High School, class of 1944.

            Gene was owner of Nelson’s Jewelry Store in Titusville until he sold the business in 1986 at which time he and his wife retired.

            Gene was a life member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Titusville.  He was a member of the Titusville Lodge No. 754 F.&A.M. and New Castle Consistory.  He was also a member of the Titusville Lions Club.  He enjoyed golfing; was an avid fan of the Cleveland Browns and Indians.  In retirement years, he and his wife vacationed at Crystal Lake Club near Sebring, FL where they enjoyed golf and dinner dances.

            Gene is survived by three children, Richard Nelson and friend Ellen of Erie, Tom Nelson and wife May of Arlington, VA, and Linda Armstrong and husband Craig of Perkiomenville, PA; five grandchildren, Dr. Jenna Snow and husband Brad of Lansdale, Ben Armstrong of Perkiomenville, and Anders, Alex, and Sydney Nelson of Arlington, VA; two great grandchildren, Edyn and Gabriel Snow; and numerous nieces and nephews.

            Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville, PA on Friday from 6 to 8 PM and attend the funeral service there on Saturday at 11 AM with Dr. Barry E. Cressman officiating.

            Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

            The family asks that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Shriners Hospital for Children 1645 W. 8th Street Erie, PA 16505.
