Obituary of Marilyn K. Mortimer

Mrs. Marilyn K. Mortimer, 88, of Titusville, passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018, at the Crawford County Care Center in Saegertown, PA.  She had been a resident there for the past four years.

            Mrs. Mortimer was born on October 21, 1930, in Petrolia, PA, to the late Clarence and Helen Shakley Kummer.

            She was a graduate of Pleasantville High School, class of 1948, and attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she majored in music. In Titusville, she was a student of Joan Peebles, a vocal instructor who helped her to receive certification from the Toronto Conservatory of Music.

            Marilyn was a member of St. James Memorial Episcopal Church and choir director for 20 years.  She was well-known for her beautiful singing voice and she shared that talent throughout the community.

            Marilyn was a member of the Titusville Garden Club, Titusville Women’s Club and a volunteer at the Titusville Area Hospital for many years.

            She is survived by her daughter, Debra Cagle and husband Thomas of Saegertown; sons  John Snyder of Orlando, FL,  and Brett Snyder (Caren Putzu) of Ypsilanti, MI, step-daughters, Britta Kiger of Morgantown, WV, and Mary Kay Mortimer of  Delmont, PA; a brother, Gerald Kummer of Carlsbad, CA, a sister, Judith LeVan (Gary) of Scottsdale, AZ; grandchildren, Brian Cagle and wife Sylvia of Meadville, PA, Jeffrey Cagle and wife Jennifer Andresen of Alexandria, VA, and Alicia Cagle of Pittsburgh, PA, along with several nieces and nephews.

            Marilyn was preceded in death by her first husband, James J. Snyder, whom she married on June 9, 1951 and later passed away on November 1, 1992; her second husband, Keith D. Mortimer, whom she married on January 2, 1995, and he passed away on March 28, 2011; a daughter, Melanie Ann Snyder; a son, Steven J. Snyder; and a brother, Jack Kummer.

            Friends may attend visitation from 1:00 – 2:00 pm at St. James Memorial Episcopal Church in Titusville on Monday, November 26, 2018; Memorial service will be held immediately following at 2:00 pm.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Melanie Ann Snyder Scholarship Fund, c/o Crawford Heritage Foundation, 415 Chestnut St., P O Box 933, Meadville, PA 16335 or St. James Memorial Episcopal Church.  

            Interment will be in St. Catharine’s Cemetery, Titusville, PA.
